The original spacers SPACERS V1, made from RF-certified ROHACELL foam, deployed in our CTIA hand phantoms SHO X were designed for optimal RF performance, i.e., they closely simulate air. These, however, were subject to breakage during daily usage when not very carefully handled. To address this issue, SPEAG set out to redesign the spacers with the objective to increase robustness without significant sacrifice of RF performance.
Today, SPEAG is proud to announce the release of the redesigned SPACERS V2. These spacers are hollow, thin shells manufactured from low-loss plastics with a dielectric constant of less than 5.0 and a loss tangent less than 0.05. The attenuation performance of the new SPACERS V2 was evaluated and compared to that of SPACERS V1 with a number of devices having different form factors in a CTIA certified OTA test lab; no significantly increased attenuations were found.
