cSAR3D - SAR System with Novel Vector Array Technology

What is cSAR3D?

cSAR3D is the most advanced vector array system for conducting fast, high-precision SAR measurements of wireless devices for testing compliance with national and international safety guidelines. The system is compliant with the latest draft of IEC 62209-3 and with all fast SAR protocols (e.g., IEC 62209-2 and IEEE 1528). SPEAG is working closely with regulators to achieve regulatory acceptance.

cSAR3D has been found by an independent laboratory to pass the strict validation requirements of IEC Draft 62209-3. A report of the validation results is available on request.

The user-friendly cSAR3D system is equipped with superior and powerful technology including a unique vector array, advanced 3D reconstruction algorithms using amplitude and phase information, state-of-the-art fast data acquisition, and tight integration of base station simulators. Compliance testing is now faster and easier than ever with high accuracy within one second, ensuring a quicker entry of your new wireless products in a highly competitive market.

Four phantom geometries are available: cSAR3D Left Head and Right Head, cSAR3D Flat (Head or Body medium), and the cSAR3D Quad for testing large devices, such as laptops and base station antennas.

cSAR3D Measurement System


cSAR3D is ideal for conducting SAR measurements where high accuracy is required. The high speed capabilities of the system enables a wide range of applications for:

  • SAR compliance evaluation of wireless devices,
  • Fast SAR testing, including integration with DASY systems,
  • Investigation of the influence of design modifications on RF performance, and
  • Quality Assurance testing of factory samples.
High Accuracy & Speed

The hardware measures all components of the electric field in the most important regions of the phantoms. Novel field reconstruction algorithms based on amplitude and phase provide the 3D SAR distribution throughout the head and flat phantoms. The shape and dielectric parameters of the head and flat phantoms comply with international standards.

The optimized hardware and reconstruction algorithms enable SAR measurement, postprocessing, and visualization within seconds.

Visualization & Reporting

cSAR3D has several features for fast measurement and visualization:

  • Base station emulator integration,
  • Visualization of full 3D SAR distribution in the phantom,
  • Visualization of peak spatial-average SAR for all device configurations, and
  • Automated report and table generation (various formats supported).

Base Station Emulator

The following base station emulators have been integrated for automated control of the cSAR3D systems:

  • Rohde & Schwarz CMW500
  • Rohde & Schwarz CMU200
  • Keysight (Agilent) E5515C/E 8960 Series 10
  • Anritsu MT8820C
  • Anritsu MT8821C
  • Keysight E7515A UXM (V3.0)

The Python interface enables the user to program and control other emulators.

Broad Frequency Range

300 MHz - 6 GHz extended frequency range

Dielectric parameters of the tissue simulating material conform to international standards and regulatory guidelines over a frequency range of 500 MHz - 6 GHz within a tolerance of 10%. For the 300 MHz - 500 MHz frequency range, SAR measurements can be performed with minimal increase in the measurement uncertainty.

Ease of Use

All test configurations of a wireless device can be easily created in the graphical user interface. An expert system guides you through the SAR testing process, allowing rules to be applied for standardized fast SAR testing or test reduction protocols.


The software includes an automated interface with base station emulators through a GPIB interface. cSAR3D integration with DASY6 allows the export and import of data. The Python interface allows you to write simple scripts to customize the testing process, control external devices, and postprocess the data.


cSAR3D is delivered fully calibrated with all communication signals for wireless devices listed on our support page. Calibrations for other communication signals can be added without sending the hardware to us.

Recent Update Notes

Software Version 2.8 features quick and intuitive measurement setup feature to its cSAR3D software that is optimal for quick & easy measurements as needed in R&D applications or for special analyses. A new remote interface now provides an exceptional level of convenience for QA testing by allowing sites to use their own automated test software and analysis tools, and extending scalability to multi-site environments (see news release).
